There are a lot of myths about foot pain. We have listed 3 to make sure you are aware of them!
Myth #1: Chances are my foot pain will go away on its own.
Delayed treatment can lead to chronic pain that may not respond as well to conservative treatments, and increases the chances of future surgical treatment. Our Podiatrists perform full medical and biomechanical exams of your lower limbs and analyze your gait to address any underlying conditions such as tight muscles or limb length discrepancy.
Orthotic devices may be placed in your shoes to address these issues and to prevent issues from occurring in the future. If the pain persists for more than 2 weeks, or continues to increase, seek a correct diagnosis and treatment plan.
Myth #2: A doctor can’t do anything for a broken toe.
Unfortunately many people believe this myth and never get proper treatment for these injuries. In fact, if a fractured toe or metatarsal bone is not treated correctly serious complications may develop. The bone may become deformed thereby limiting the ability to move the foot or causing difficulty in fitting shoes. If there is a fracture in a joint, arthritis may develop. Which can cause chronic pain and long term dysfunction, this ultimately can lead to the need for surgery.
Myth #3: The term “laser” originated as an acronym for “light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation“
Actually this is a true fact (at least according to Wikipedia!) Podiatrists at Ankle N Foot Centers use a special FDA approved laser to treat fungus of the nails. Not all lasers are FDA approved. Not all lasers work. Laser therapy can also be used to treat stubborn warts that won’t go away, scars or even tattoos-which is available at our locations.
