EPAT: Extracorporeal Pulse Activated Therapy

What is it?

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) is a breakthrough advancement in regenerative medicine which utilizes the body’s own ability to augment its regenerative potential.

It is an FDA approved method of providing non-invasive treatment to sites of chronic soft tissue and musculoskeletal injuries. Often used as an alternative method of treatment to surgery, it is an excellent and time efficient approach for patients who desire a fast recovery time.

Our form of ESWT, is known as Extracorporeal Pulse Activated Therapy (EPAT), is a unique method of providing shockwave treatment which can be performed in clinic, without the necessity of anesthesia, operating rooms, or other costly requirements in the hospital setting.

How Does EPAT Work?

By mechanism of radio waves generated through an electromagnetic pulse, an acoustic pressure wave is sent to damaged tissue. This in turn signals the body’s ability to promote blood circulation to unhealthy tissue, enhancing the healing process. Think of it as a microscopic jack hammer stimulating your body’s own cells to produce healing factors through repetitive pulsations!

Our highly trained physicians provide this in-office therapy which is often beneficial after only 3 weekly treatments. Studies have shown 80-92% relief following therapy, allowing for full restoration of mobility and greatly reduce pain levels.

What is EPAT Treatment Like?

Treatment sessions are quick, pain-free, weekly, 15-minute appointments where you are positioned on the exam chair according to the site of injury. The health care provider will apply the EPAT machine directly to the treatment area and perform treatment with the use of lubricating gel. Typically, only 3 treatments are required, and you are re-evaluated at 6 and 12 week post-treatment periods. Best of all, there is no downtime required at any point during the treatment period!
